We will be visiting Miserden first. There are tea/coffee facilities here but sadly the café is closed on the date we are visiting.

“With terraces overlooking the Golden Valley, The Garden at Miserden dates back to the seventeenth century. The estate encompasses 850 acres of woodland, farmland and gardens providing a sanctuary for wildlife and a tranquil escape to allow you to spend time exploring. From early spring visitors can enjoy beautiful flowering beds, shrubs and fine topiary. Within the walled garden generous herbaceous borders run down either side, with a pergola of roses, stately spires of delphinium and fine specimen trees nestle together with hydrangea villosa.”

We will travel on to Painswick and aim to be here for approx. 1pm. There are lunch facilities here, or you may wish to bring a picnic (fingers crossed for good weather!)

“Painswick Rococo Garden is a beautiful place to escape, explore and imagine. It was designed in the 1740s as an English country gentleman's pleasure garden, a place for holding intimate garden parties.  Laid out in a hidden valley around Painswick House, the Garden is now the country's only complete surviving rococo garden. From 1984, the Garden has been rescued from ruin and transformed into a stunning place to escape the busy world. You can drink in the vista from the Eagle House, sit in the Doric seat, climb the narrow steps to the octagonal Pigeon House and have your photo taken in the Gothic Alcove. There are beautifully-framed views throughout the year, the chance to battle to find the centre of the unusual maze - and of course delicious homemade food in the cosy cafe afterwards.”
